Q: What triggers asthma?
A: There are many things that can trigger an asthma attack. These include:
■ Dust mites
■ Pollen
■ Allergies
■ Cold/Flu
■ Smoke (both cigarette and wood smoke)
■ Cold air
■ Exercise
■ Mold
■ Pollution
Determine what triggers your asthma so that you can avoid them.

Q: What medicines are used in asthma?
A: There are two kinds of medications used. Quick Relief and Controller medications.
■ Quick Relief medications are for when you are having an asthma attack.
They relieve the muscle constriction around your airways.

■ Controller medications relieve the inflammation within your airways and are taken
on a long term basis. They are not a substitute for Quick Relief medicines

Q: What is a peak flow?
A: A peak flow is an instrument that measures how much air you can
blow out of your lungs. This instrument is useful in picking
up changes within your lung before you experience any symptoms.
