Cystic Fibrosis:

Cystic Fibrosis is hereditary disease that affects the lungs. The disease is characterized by extreme amounts of mucous that becomes dry, thick and sticky. Because the mucous is difficult to remove, patients with the disease are prone to numerous lung infections. Because CF can cause inflammation and structural damage to the lungs, it's symptoms are also like asthma and include wheezing, cough chest tightness and difficulty in breathing.

Pneumonia:

Pneumonia can also be characterized as an inflammatory disease. Unlike asthma, however, pneumonia affects the air sacs (alveoli) of the lungs. The alveoli become inflamed and filled with fluid thereby making gas exchange difficult. Pneumonia can arise due to a variety of reasons. Most often it is due to infections (bacterial, viral, fungal, even parasitic). The disease can also arise from exposure to chemical irritants or physical injury to the lungs themselves. Like asthma the symptoms of pneumonia are difficulty in breathing, chest tightness, some wheezing and cough.
