Pennies For Kellen was born out of the unfortunate and untimely death of Kellen Edwin Bolden. Kellen, a 10-year-old Point South Elementary School student, was waiting on the school bus to carry him home. While waiting he suffered a severe and ultimately fatal asthma attack.
Kellen was a very active child who enjoyed sports and other activities of a normal child. He believed he could be anything he wanted to be when he grew up, however he never got that chance.
Since Kellen’s Passing, his mother, Rhonda Mitchell has made her mission that other children will have the chance that her son never got. As a result of her dedication, in April 2002, the “Kellen Edwin Bolden Act” was passed in the Georgia legislator Senate Bill 472. This bill ensures that children with asthma will have ready access and are able to carry on their person their asthma medication while at school.
